SPECIAL BOARD MEETING WAKITA BOARD OF EDUCATION APRIL 26TH, 2011 WAKITA LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER 200 S. SPRUCE, WAKITA, OKLAHOMA 73771 7:00 P.M.
The Wakita Board of Education met in special session on April 26th, 2011 at 7:02 p.m. Members present were Mary Elliott, Dr. Nevaleen Joy Selmat, Jerry Biby, and Lee Roberts. Beth Hendrick was absent. Special Guests was Mary Pratt with OEA representing Brenda Allen, Mark Hager, and Diane Highfill. Blake Sonne with APOE representing John Arnbrecht, Sheryl Bellamy, Anetta Bushman, Linda Childress, Pamela Gilchrist, Sammie Kinsey, Melinda Lounsbury, and Chase Sissom. Larry Lewis was legal representation for the Wakita Board of Education. Staff present was Joe Baker, Michelle Baker, Richard Barr, Barbara Chance, Wendi Conrady, Debbie George, Kelley George, Mary Lou Leblo, Julie Matthew, Katrina Oldham, and Marlene Wilczeck. Several other guests were present. President Elliott called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Selmat moved and Roberts seconded to approve 2009-2010 annual audit as presented by Buddy Carroll. Vote: 4-0 motion carried Mr. Miller gave the opening statement for the Reduction-in-Force Hearing for Certified and Support personnel, which included a Finding of Facts that supports the reason for the Reduction-in-Force. Mary Pratt gave a presentation on behalf of her clients. Blake Sonne gave a presentation on behalf of his clients. Selmat moved and Biby seconded to convene into executive session at 7:53 to discuss possible implementation of Reduction-in-Force and Findings of Facts. Vote 4-0 motion carried Biby moved and Selmat seconded to reconvene into open session at 8:20. Executive Minutes Session statement was given by President Elliott. Biby moved and Roberts seconded not to reemploy each teacher and each support employ because: District enrollment decreased to sixty (60) at the beginning of this school year and at the end of this school year enrollment may decrease to less than fifty (50) students. Due to transfer applications, district enrollment may decrease to less than forty (40) students at the beginning of the next year, primarily because of the inability to field athletic and extra-curricular activities. Due to these decreases the district has entered into an Annexation Agreement with the Medford district, and an annexation election vote is scheduled June 14th, 2011. Vote 4-0 motion carried Biby moved and Roberts seconded not to reemploy each employee based on the Finding of Facts. Vote 4-0 motion carried Roberts moved and Biby seconded to adjourn at 8:34.
